Case description
The treatment of this second mandibular molar, from 2012, is an excellent example of how an initial x-ray cannot be sufficient to investigate the anatomy of the root canal system.
A high prevalence of C-shaped canals in this type of tooth is well known, and when looking at the x-ray of the obturation, the C-shape of this canal is evident, as well as the 3 separate apical foramina. The SAF System was to prepare this complex morphology in a minimally-invasive way, as also shown in various research papers.
About Dr. JoAnne Lam
Dr JoAnne Lam, from Singapore, graduated with a BDS degree from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and obtained an MSc (with Distinction) in Endodontics from the Eastman Dental Institution in London in 1992. She is accredited as an Endodontic Specialist since 2008, and works at a private clinic limited to endodontics. She has been a lecturer in endodontics at the National University of Singapore from 1992-2008.
